Saint Valentine is regarded as the patron saint of love and marriage. His origins are uncertain, but he is believed to have been a priest who lived in the 3rd century and who helped couples to marry in secret at a time when marriages were forbidden by the Roman Empire. He was martyred on 14 February, the day on which Saint Valentine is celebrated. In medieval Europe, 14 February became a day on which lovers exchanged love letters and gifts.

Nowadays, St Valentine’s Day is celebrated all over the world as a day of love and romance, when people exchange gifts, go out for a meal at a restaurant and send flowers and postcards. It’s the perfect opportunity to show your loved one just how much they mean to you.
